Summit County’s winter activities launched the area’s stellar reputation for adventure, and each town continues to nurture and grow an incredible variety of things to do for adventurers of all ages. Every snow sport imaginable is available locally, and many involve some serious adrenaline depending on where and how you choose to recreate. Ski resorts in Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin are the starting points for most of Summit County, CO’s, winter activities. Skiing and snowboarding continue to be the area’s most popular winter pursuits, but have you ever considered ski biking? With small skis in front and back (spots usually occupied by tires), ski bikes offer thrills for every member of the family because they are easy to control (even through tree-filled areas!). Fat tire winter snow bikes have free reign on paved roads but often share trails with cross-country skiers at the Nordic centers in Frisco and Breckenridge. Riders should call first to confirm conditions. Dog sledding has grown beyond novelty status in Summit County with outfitters suiting up the pups for a dash in the woods. The tubing hills at Copper Mountain, Keystone and Frisco are also great for mixed-age groups.

Indoor/outdoor activities can include shopping on main streets in Frisco and Breckenridge and the many historic museums found in Dillon, Frisco and Breckenridge that animate what life was like in the 1880s West.
