Mother's Day 2020: How to celebrate safely during the coronavirus outbreak

By Erica Ohmes | Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Mother's Day is Sunday and like everything else, it's going to be different as most of the country is still under safer-at-home mandates. While many counties and states begin to ease restrictions, it is important to continue to be cautious when being in contact with family members who might be elderly and/or may have underlying health issues. If your Mother's Day traditions consist of going out for brunch or driving over to your grandmother's house, this year will be different but undoubtedly it does not mean we cannot celebrate and show our mothers and grandmother how much we appreciate them! I've gathered up some fun, different unique gifts and ways to celebrate Mother's Day, and support small businesses in Summit County during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Create a Homemade Card.

While nothing can replace spending quality time together, creating a homemade card can make Mother's day a little more special while not having to spend a lot of money. A simple handwritten card seems almost outdated now but can add that extra special touch.

Treat your mom this Mother’s Day with Carboy Winery in Breckenridge’s Rosé + Roses special. If Rosé is not your mom’s wine preference, choose from two other gift boxes: Bubbly + Blanco or Bouquet + Viognier. Each gift  box includes a bottle of wine and 6 assorted roses. You can also add a charcuterie board (choose from meat and cheese, all cheese, or an all meat board) or a dessert box (2 Meyer lemon cheesecakes, 4 dark truffles, & 2 raspberry panna cotta) to your order.

Blue River Bistro in Breckenridge has been touted as one of the best places to grab a martini at by locals and tourists alike. This year they have teamed up with Bloom Flower Shop for two special Mother’s Day Basket options: Brunch or Picnic. Each beautifully woven basket includes a personalized name tag, bouquet from Bloom, house-made goodies, and more. Let Blue River Bistro and Bloom Flower Shop do the heavy lifting this Mother’s Day and call 970-453-6974 to order or order online here.

Try a virtual shopping session with Don Lo Mercantile.

Although Don Lo Mercantile’s brick and mortar location is still closed, they have adapted their business model by offering virtual shopping sessions. My favorite concept about Don Lo’s virtual shopping sessions is that you receive 20% all items purchased during the session. Sign up here for a time slot that works best for you.

Non-Contact Gift Ideas.

At the end of the day, all gifts aside, the best gift you can truly give is your presence. A facetime catch up is one of my favorites activities lately with all my family members and friends. I actually have a Mother’s Day facetime session scheduled this Sunday with my mother-in-law and grandma. Above all what your mum wants for Mother’s Day is for you to look after yourself, each other, and know we are all into this today and we will get through this as best we can.
